Castrol Iloquench 768 Aqua FF
fully synthetic water-soluble polymer quenchant
Castrol Iloquench™ 768 Aqua FF is a high-performance, fully synthetic polymer-based heat treatment fluid designed for induction and flame hardening of steel components. It is free from formaldehyde-releasing agents and provides an intermediate quenching rate between water and oil, which can be precisely adjusted by changing the concentration. Its excellent cleanliness and low-residue formulation help reduce scrap rates and simplify downstream processing.
Application:
Iloquench 768 Aqua FF is intended for quenching applications such as flame or induction hardening of carbon steels, low and high alloy steels, and austenitic stainless steels. It is especially suitable for parts such as crankshafts, gears, axles, transmission shafts, saw blades, rolling mill cylinders, rocker arms, and push rods. Its polymer-based nature ensures reduced risk of warping and cracking while improving safety by eliminating fire hazards associated with oil-based quenchants.
Benefits:
- Minimises vapor blanket (Leidenfrost effect): reduces risk of soft spots and cracking.
- Water-based, fire-resistant formula: enhances operator safety and lowers insurance risk.
- Excellent in-process corrosion protection: prevents rusting during intermediate storage or handling.
- Low foaming and minimal drag-out: reduces maintenance and increases bath life.
- Superior cleanliness: improves compatibility with downstream cleaning systems.
- Free from formaldehyde-releasing biocides: supports compliance with environmental regulations.
Recommended Operating Conditions:
- Bath temperature: 20 – 45 °C
- Carbon and low alloy steels: 5 – 15%
- High alloy steels: 15 – 25%
- Austenitic steels, pipes, profiles: 5 – 10%

Concentration Control:
Use a handheld refractometer. Concentration (%) = refractometer reading × 1.83. Verify factor based on local water quality using standard solutions.
Storage:
Store in sealed containers in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposure to frost, direct sunlight, and water contamination. Ideal storage temperature: 5–45°C (41–113°F). Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for further information.
